Spirit Huts
Spirit Hut can be best described as a multipurpose outdoor structure created with one main objective: Distinction. Inspired by West Coast and Interior Indigenous and art and architecture, Spirit Hut is as unique in its appearance as it is in its construction. we use only the absolute best clear, dry, Western Red Cedar from British Columbia Sources. We use only the best roofing material, again sourced right here in British Columbia. We further use only the best craftsmanship in the construction of spirit hut.
You may have asked yourself recently, “Does anyone build real stuff anymore?” The answer to that question is "yes” and you can find it in Spirit Hut. When you receive your Spirit Hut you will also receive a mallet. The reason for this is that this is the only tool you will need in Spirit Hut’s assembly. There are no nails, there are no screws, and there are no nuts or bolts. Using old-world techniques every component has been painstakingly engineered to fit precisely into corresponding components. If you look around you will see that this is just not done anymore. The only corners we cut are by hand.
The uses of Spirit Hut are many. It can 1used as a backyard office, artist den, yoga studio, or simply a place of quiet contemplation away from the distractions of our busy existence. It can also be used as extra accommodation on busy nights or a place to entertain family and friends.
Spirit Works knows aesthetics. Our contemporary design and solid natural components allow for a tasteful yet eye catching addition to your space. The West Coast feel that underpins our design offers extended eves and a sloping facia; a style that is as ergonomically unique as it is familiar in its lines and spaces.
The wood:
The Spirit Hut is naturally rot-resistant because it’s built from the finest Clear Western Red Cedar. We’ve gone to enormous lengths to provide you with the best of this wood which is amongst the most beautiful found anywhere ii the world. Furthermore our materials are primarily recycled, reclaimed, or salvaged. At Spiii/ Irorks we have are beholden to our environment, our elders, and our children, none of which are forgiving when we act to destroy the very thing that sustains our cultuie, our way of life, and our well being. The Cedar tree is sacred to us.
The roof:
We’ve chosen copper to adorn the roof of the hut because of its natural integration with the Cedar. It matures over time and offers a second dimension to the construct. Similar to the Cedar of which Spirit Hut is constructed, Copper will last more than a lifetime without breaking down if left in its natural state, the copper will oxidize and turn a spectacular emerald green. For those that relish copper’s deep autumnal hue, sealed copper will maintain it luster for years to come. Historically copper was a symbol of affluence among West Coast First Nations’ peoples, and copper shields were offered amongst royalty potlatches, as the highest sign of respect.
The Artwork:
Spirit Works Limited, the maker of Spirit Hut, is a company focused on the infusion of high-end Aboriginal artwork into high-end functional wood products. The Spirit Hut falls neatly into this and the artwork adorning the door to the Spirit Hut is first-class. Using delicate inlaying techniques traditional to our people. Spirit Works in collaboration with numerous Aboriginal artists create works that arc as unique as they arc beautiful.
The Spirit hut is your retreat; a place where you can collect your thoughts. It is a place for minds, bodies and souls to come together. The cedar surround and vaulted ceilings provide an optimal environment for creative thought. In an ever more demanding world Spirit Hut provides you with sanctuary and tranquility. Only the best Clear Western Red Cedar, primarily from recycled and salvages sources. Longer overhanging eves to shade from the sun. Angled walls and glass which enhance the style of the Spirit Hut, also deflect the direct sunlight which makes most ‘glassed-in’ structures unbearably hot.
